5th Athens International Arbitration Forum: Issues of Enforcement in International Arbitration
Divani Caravel Hotel - 21 November 2024
The area of enforcement of arbitral awards, especially against States, is currently one of the most interesting and fertile areas of international arbitration and international law.
On the one hand, States seek to resist enforcement relying on various defences, such as sovereign immunity and (in the area of European Union) EU law and CJEU jurisprudence prohibiting arbitration in investment disputes.
On the other hand, claimants seek new approaches to enforcing awards, such as enforcing awards against non-signatory parties.
The speakers of the Forum, from several jurisdictions and diverse backgrounds ranging from academia, commercial and investor-state arbitration practice, will examine a wide range of new legal and practical issues in relation to enforcement of international arbitral awards.
